Every now and then I run across a website that is so simple and useful that I wonder why I never thought to look for a site like it.
CopyPasteCharacter.com is one of those sites. What does it do? It's a web and iPhone application for copying special characters so you can paste them into whatever you are working on (documents, email, etc).
Special characters usually come with typefaces - things like arrows, symbols, bullets, squares, currency and language characters. They can be a little clunky to access. A quick and easy shortcut is a good alternative to using keyboard codes.

CopyPasteCharacter.com is very easy to use. Click to copy a character; if you need to copy more than one, hold down the alt key on your keyboard and click the characters you want. There's a slider bar at the bottom of the page that changes the size of the characters.
The drop down menu in the middle of the page (next to Our favorite set) brings up links to sets of characters - arrows, classic, currency, graphic shaptes, mathematical, numerals, punctuation and symbols. You can view all the characters, sort characters by alphabetical order, and search for specific characters.
Special characters can also be used on Twitter, Facebook, Gmail, and Google Chat. This PCWorld article has directions and a good section on creating emoticons.
HTML Source has a good list of markup related symbols with handy sections on standard letter variations, punctuation, mathematical symbols, greek letters and special spaces with their keyboard codes.
